About Headway

Headway Gold Coast Inc. is a locally formed not-for-profit organization founded in 1985 with the intention of rehabilitating people suffering from Acquired Brain Injuries.

Our service extends from Tweed Heads to Beenleigh with members coming from Brisbane and Gold Coast hospitals, other services, family, friends, and through self referral.

Community Services

Many able bodied members of our community/society take for granted the everyday activities that face us on a day to day basis. However for a person with an acquired brain injury the daily tasks of living, such as shopping, banking, medical appointments, entertainment etc can be daunting experiences.

Aquired Brain Injury

Acquired brain injury is injury to the brain which results in deterioration in cognitive, physical, emotional or independent functioning. ABI can occur as a result of trauma, hypoxia, infection, tumour, substance abuse, degenerative neurological diseases or stroke.

These impairments to cognitive abilities or physical functioning may be either temporary or permanent and cause partial or total disability or psychosocial maladjustment.’
